🍂 Hello, Friends and Readers!

September always feels like a bit of a fresh start. Summer begins winding down, the days grow a little shorter, and cooler evenings make it a particularly good time to settle in with a book.

Here at Three Dogs Publishing, I continue to write, create, and explore new ways of telling stories. I’m also continuing to discover how much technology—particularly AI—can help independent writers and publishers with everything from brainstorming and research to artwork and promotion. The tools keep changing, but one thing doesn’t: the story still has to come from the human being behind it.

📚 This Month’s Recommended Reading: Foundation by Isaac Asimov

If you enjoy science fiction—or simply enjoy books built around fascinating ideas—I recommend Isaac Asimov’s Foundation.

The premise is remarkable: mathematician Hari Seldon develops a science called “psychohistory,” which can predict the broad course of civilization. He foresees the collapse of a vast Galactic Empire followed by thousands of years of chaos. His solution is the Foundation—a project intended to preserve human knowledge and dramatically shorten the coming dark age.

What I especially enjoy about Foundation is that its real battles are often battles of intelligence rather than weapons. Asimov asks us to think about civilization, power, human behavior, and whether the future can truly be predicted—or controlled.

Originally published more than 70 years ago, it remains one of science fiction’s most influential works. If you’ve never read it, September might be a good month to give it a try.

Welcome to the August edition of the Three Dogs Publishing Newsletter!

Thank you to everyone who has purchased one of my books, requested a free copy, visited my website, or simply taken the time to read something I’ve written. I appreciate having you along as my little publishing adventure continues.

📚 What’s New?

I’ve continued to spend much of my time writing, reading, and working on new ideas. One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about writing books is that it has also encouraged me to become a more adventurous reader.

Lately I’ve been going back to some of the classics—the books and stories that have survived not merely for decades, but sometimes for thousands of years.

And that brings me to this month’s recommendation.

📖 Recommended Reading:

The Odyssey

by Homer

If you’ve never read The Odyssey, or haven’t read it since school, I think it’s worth another visit.

Written nearly 3,000 years ago, it tells the story of Odysseus and his long journey home following the Trojan War. Along the way there are monsters, shipwrecks, temptation, gods and goddesses, strange lands, and one adventure after another.

But underneath all of that, it’s a remarkably human story about home, loyalty, perseverance, love, and the desire to get back to the people who matter most.

I was particularly struck by how modern parts of the story can feel despite its incredible age. There’s a reason we’re still talking about Odysseus almost three millennia later.

If you’ve always thought of The Odyssey as one of those intimidating “classics,” give it a try. A good modern English translation makes it surprisingly accessible—and it’s a great adventure.

I’m continuing to work on new stories and book ideas, including children’s stories and projects involving artificial intelligence and creativity.

There always seems to be another idea waiting just around the corner—which is one of the things that makes writing so much fun.

Book Recommendation

📖 The Dog Stars by Peter Heller

I recently finished reading The Dog Stars, and I found it to be a compelling and memorable novel. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, it tells the story of survival, friendship, loss, hope, and the special bond between a man and his dog.

What I appreciated most was that beneath the adventure and suspense, it’s really a story about what it means to remain human when everything around you has changed.

If you’re looking for a thoughtful and engaging read, you may want to add it to your reading list.
